August 8 Deep Sea Fishing Report
Summer fishing remains hot with the arrival of the the shrimp boats a couple of weeks ago. The blue water has pushed within 7 miles of the beach and has brought the pelagics with it. The 8 hour trips are able to get their kingfish very easily around the ships at anchor and the shrimp boats. The shrimp boats have been also the home to numerous other fish, sharks, bonita, jackfish, dorado, ling…. Some of the deeper shrimp boats have had some blackfin tuna as well. You will need to find the shrimp boats in the deeper water, about 200 foot or more.
This past weekend, most of the billfish fleet was down south for TIFT. There was a good bite around Colt 45 with sails, whites, yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna and dorado found all around the rock. Last week, Nate on the Iced Down found a couple of real nice dorado while trolling with one of them topping 38 pounds. The billfishing should only improve as we get into September.
