July 2006 Port Aransas Fishing Report, Texas Charter Fleet

7/17/06 – General Offshore-  All I can say about the offshore fishing is FANTASTIC!  Since the last report, the rain has subsided along with the seas.  The weather has been calm and hot, just like the fishing.  During the Deep Sea Roundup, the billfish bite was “in close” at about 50-80 fathoms.  There were large schools of bait in the cooler water along with sails and blues.  Some notable catches were from the Hook ‘Em with two Blues and a sail released on day two.  Outacontrol also released 2 blues and a sail as well as jumping off a sail.  Coco Mialjo caught a blue and 4 sails.  Madera, Bottom Dollar  and Francesca all released two blues.  It seems that there were about 20-25 blues caught and roughly the same number of sails over the weekend.  The meat fish catches were very good with a 59lb wahoo taking top honors, and a 45 lb dolphin took first place.  Cherokee did not fish the roundup, but did catch 3 blue marlin over the weekend, with one of the releases looking well over 400lbs.

This last weekend’s featured tournament was the POCO BUENO.  Congrats to “Hot Rod” for taking first place with a 583lb and a 311lb blue marlin weighed.  Most of the fish were caught at the deep water rigs Tequila, Cerveza rigs, Little Sister, Gunnison, Diana…  A few fish were caught around Falcon and Baker too.  One report of a spearfish released on the Seay Goddess, I am working on pics to confirm the report, just to make sure it wasn’t post POCO festivities affecting Eddie’s story.

Reports of some very nice rips near north Baker to Falcon produced many dolphin and wahoo for the Reel Easy.

Temptation reported a good weed line inshore southern that produced some dolphin and jumped a sailfish on it.  He also reported that the inshore kingfish bite is hot.

The Git Er Dun has been having great success with kingfish, ling, sharks, some snapper, spanish mackeral and even caught a sailfish.

The Fishin Impossible had a successful weekend catching kingfish, dolphin, ling, snapper, jackfish and had a sailfish come looking but not taking.

Iced Down continues to have good trips out.  Nate and Jamie have been bringing in wahoo and dolphin to compliment their kings, lings, snapper and grouper.

General Bay - Once again the guides have been able to get out past the jetties and have been adding kingfish to their stringers of reds and trout.  The trout have been coming from the surf, and the reds from the flats.  It has been very still and hot so be ready with plenty of fluids and sunscreen.  Rumors of tarpon rolling at the jetties are starting to come in, I will have to check it out…all work no play, what am I to do.

7/6/06- General offshore - The pictures below pretty much sum up how the last week of fishing has been.  Some boats have been making it out dodging the storms.  Iced Down reported that he had one of his better weeks with large amberjack at the deeper rigs and also caught a 65 grouper along with a sailfish at the rocks.  Kings have been thick just about everywhere.  The Deep Sea Roundup is this weekend, so there should be a whole lot of fishing reports/stories next week.

General Bay - The guides have been fighting the weather as well, but they have been doing very well when they get a chance to fish.  I have heard different reports from different guides.  Some are catching reds in the flats, others are catching trout in the surf.  Still a few kingfish around the jetties as well.
